Memory

A blog friend asked me what a favorite childhood memory of mine was, and it's this.  In elementary school, every Thursday, I would be shuttled to another school almost 40 miles from the one I attended to get occupational and physical therapy.  I would go down to the office, sit there until I saw that big yellow school bus would pick me up.  On that ride, I would wonder what others were doing while I was gone.  On the ride over, I would memorize license plates, pick out my pretty future cars(that I am not able to drive.)  Glad I didn't know that then.  I would remember passing Velda Farms.  Whenever I saw it, I smiled.  When I would get to Biscayne Gardens, I would see Celia for OT and Trey for PT.  I would start with Celia.  I would always try to fit a square peg into a round hole.  I have to say I liked PT more because there was a hammock like contraption suspended from the ceiling and I would twirl myself around and around after walking my hands out back and forth.  I could only do this if I followed all the rules and worked hard.  I hated Thursdays because I didn't want to be "special" in that way.  It's a good memory in that I have been blessed with opportunity, most people won't experience.
These days I long to return to "Thursdays", and when being "special" I realize was one of the greatest blessings of my life.
Today I realize that I may be the most normal human being some may ever see.  And while I'm wishing to be someone else, their wishing to be me.
Have a great day!

  2. that's a lovely story! you know, whe're all special in our own way and the fact that you're embracing life and focusing on the good parts of it is a great example to everybody to do the same! sometimes, we get caught up in our everyday little issues and forget that what matters most is to enjoy life and whatever we have before it's too late :)

  5. As a child, I often had to go to physio to help with my walking and although sometimes it was a chore, most of the time it was actually quite good fun.
