Coppertone

 Sweating

on the treadmill

Brings me back

to riding up

the top floor

To work out

and look out

at the ocean

At the same time

The things

I despised the most

Are now what

I treasure

Never take

Ocean views

for granted

And the

people who

made them worthwhile

I miss

the scent

of saltwater

and sunscreen

Childhood

brought

to you

by the makers

of Coppertone

  1. Oh wow this is so well said. It totally brought back memories for me. And these times it is so nostalgic for past times. I actually entered Writers Digest non rhyming poetry competition. I entered 3 poems. They placed 11th, 12th and 99th out of 100 winners. Maybe one day I will share them on the blog but they are kind of dark LOL.

  4. When I was a young I used to want my parents to buy Coppertone because I love the way it smelled at the beach. My parents would say no because we didn't need suntan oil. Now back then there wasn't awareness of skin cancer so magazines and tv ads were constantly showing ads for getting the darkest tan possible. Back then, there wasn't awareness of skin cancer so suntan products didn't have SPF numbers. For fun ( or the horror!😮) Google Image vintage suntan lotion ads. Of course now it's recommended everyone should use sunblock regardless of skin tone. Yes, even I use sunblock.
I miss the ocean now that we are in Arizona. We haven't seen the ocean in nearly five years.☹

  5. Dearest Regine,
Fond memories of our childhood are the wings of memories we love to reminisce on at old(er) age...

  6. Siempre hay lugares; aromas, perfumes hasta los protectores nos traen recuerdos de la niñez, que de grande vuelven....

  9. We were at the beach just a few weeks ago and watching and listening to the waves was hypnotic. Smelling the sea air mixed with the scent of sea oats was the icing on the cake.

  10. Although we don't have Coppertone I do love the beach - something so special about being by the sea!

Hope that you have a lovely weekend ahead of you!

  15. Oh yes, how I remember those Coppertone ads, and the little girl with the puppy pulling on the little girl's panties and showing her "tan line". I never could get a tan as I have a fair complexion and only freckle. So the coppertone only made my freckles darker! LOL. Thank you for this reminder of my childhood too.

  18. you find inspiration in your writing every where. YOu make the most mundane thing sound intriguing like I want to read more about Coppertone and your ride up and your view of the ocean.

  19. This is so true. And so universal. What's that song lyric? You don't know what you've got till it's gone? So true!
