English
not my favorite
or first language
My roots
are vast
the strength
I have is
from a people
who knew
suffering
and determination
Who knew
how to flow
fight and rest
The former
and latter
and linked
for successful
perseverance
into a life
worth millions
I envy you your mastery of another language and the knowledge of your forebears.
ReplyDeleteLucky you to have multiple languages. I wish I did, but my parents were of the generation to believe that this was the US and we only needed English. So short sighted I think.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading your words :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan

Beautiful and eloquent poem. I cannot agree more with your first two sentences “English not my favorite or first language…” English is my third and I still have trouble findings all my words.

ReplyDeleteWell written, beautiful words.
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I am of Irish descent and know that the English tried very hard to eradicate Gaelic.
ReplyDeleteI'm also not using English for my first language and I'm not fluent in English.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful roots! All the best to your creativity! & strength.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty❤
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine writing poetry in something other than my first language. This poem is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI understand!
ReplyDeleteHaving more than one language broadens your vision and deepens your experience.
ReplyDeleteGood :-D
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said ❤
ReplyDeletePretty...I see.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Dearest Regine,
ReplyDeleteNo, English is by far not a beautiful language...
Knowing seven, my favorites are: French; Italian; Spanish and German, Dutch with lastly Bahasa Indonesian which I used only for my work. A whole different language but not comparable to any Roman language. English is like Dutch and German a Germanic language; but a simple one!
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely words!

Lindo leerte. Saludos.
ReplyDeleteIf this is not your first language and you write poetry in it, then I am full of admiration and appreciation.
ReplyDeleteHow cool, did not know that! Amazing that you write poetry in a language that isn't your native one!
