Monday

 Dreaming of strolling

Rolling around

In the warm grass

As bright blue skies

Skim my skin

In delight

As I savor summer, I realize I must acquaint with the real world. Facebook isn’t it.  My life needs to be surrounded by truth, love and the beauty of humanity. I wonder when we will actually form opinions from experience not purported falsehoods. I’m glad my youth was formed by a love of books and critical thinking. Cerebral Palsy continues to teach me that I don’t bury my head to pain, but I actively seek what feeds the soul. I miss walking to the mailbox and chatting with my neighbors as I would bring them my old issues of fashion magazines I had accumulated.  The small chit chat would lead to meaningful conversations I can still recall.  Coming inside for some snacks and ice cold coke. What would be a few minutes, would end up being an afternoon. One that brings a wry smile to my face. The good ole days can still survive if we make the time.

  1. We should make the time! It warmed up and I´ll enjoy a good book on the balcony soon. Wish I could share a glass of banana-juice with you.

  3. Dearest Regine,
Yes, you are so right about the critical thinking and also about genuine conversations with a good neighbor, friend or family member. Those were valuable hours and the reason we still remember them is that they're etched into our soul. Facebook is a far cry...
If one has the ability to see through it all, let them 'TRY' it will never work.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  6. If only people would connect more in person, life would
be better, safer, happier. I wish for you that you could
    walk to the mailbox.

  8. We must make the time. This is such a lovely post. Very thoughtful -- and yes, the conversations with a real neighbor, not online or on the phone, have a wonderful energizing benefit. Well said.

  9. I loved your story about visiting with the neighbors when getting your mail. It's always nice when I see my neighbor get her mail too, and sometimes we chat. She always keeps me updated on stuff with mountain living. : )

Nice memories and very though provoking-at the moment we have a glut of tomatoes, beetroot and runner beans so have been sharing with our neighbours and having little chats more so than when everyone was working and keeping to themselves-although a few are still like that unfortunately but their loss!Sorry to hear you have cerebral palsy I didn't realise

  17. Yes! We're really losing the connection we had with real people! True socializing is becoming a lost art.

  21. Facebook can be addictive, but it doesn't make up for getting connected with real folks. Hope you can talk to your neighbors on your way to and from the mailbox, and anyone else you want to see. Hugs-Erika
