Country living

Drift away
In the sunshine
On the back porch
Snapping some peas
Remembering
A simple time
When rocking away
Deep in chatter
Dirt in my nails
Red clay
Hardens the body
Softens the soul
When memories
Aren't painful aches
But sweet reminders
Of a country upbringing
In the Deep South

  1. It would be nice to remember only the good things. But I don't believe it's possible...

  2. I have fond childhood memories of snapping peas with my mama and hanging the wash on the clothesline.

  3. Hi, Rue! This seems to be my first time here. I'll follow your blog and look for you online. This is a truly beautiful poem. My favorite lines are:
    "When memories
    Aren't painful aches
    But sweet reminders
    Of a country upbringing"
The sharp contrasts between painful aches and sweet reminders are simply wonderful. All best in 2020!

  4. These memories invoke some in me too, although we certainly didn't have a back porch, it would rain too much her in Wales to enjoy it LOL. I have had a look at your poems and they are beautifully put together. Thanks for the memories from way back.

  7. Oh my I can so relate you your words today. I can remember my grandmother buying bushels of peas and green beans from a farmer and we would have shelling "parties" on her screened porch.

  8. I can remember sitting on the back porch of my grandmother's house as a small kid. She always made fried dough for us when we visited. I love that memory and wish I had some of that now. Nice words bring back nice memories. Thank you!

  10. Country living is the best. I didn't know you grew up in the south. I have been longing to spend time in the country. I used to have a rocking chair, and because it was made from wicker, it gradually fell apart, but I loved it and miss it. I'm glad you have good memories to hold onto, Regine.

  14. Memories! I still remember the farm all those years ago. I still dice onions to freeze and garden some. Those days are mostly gone but not forgotten. Days of sun and sunburn but happy always. Thank you for your visit.

    Hugs and God Bless

  21. To keep your garden organic, be sure that any seeds you buy are authentic, high quality organic seeds. Check to make sure that the seed company has been certified organic and does not sell any genetically modified seeds. There are a growing number of sources for organic seeds, so shop around.

  23. Ever since my husband got me divorced for the past 2 years, i v'e not been my self. I was reviewing some post of how i could get back my husband then, i saw a testimony shared by Marina Choas from SWEDEN about a spell caster named Dr. tunde. I contacted Marina Chaos to confirm about how Dr. tunde helped her and she clarified everything to me of how he helped her and that gave me the courage to get in touch with Dr. tunde for help. Dr. tunde assured me that my days of sorrows will be over within 48hours after he has finished with his work. I followed his instructions he gave to me because i had the believe, faith, hope and trust in him. Verily i say to you today that i and my husband are back together and i can proudly say and testify to the world of what Dr. tunde did for me.
