Braces

Walking with braces is a daily experience. Sometimes it’s painful. Sometimes it’s a nuisance, but it’s always necessary. I wore them as a wee one, and for a few years now I’ve returned. My pride took some blows. My pride is nothing compared to weak ankles. Without these implements, I fell constantly. I learned how to fall correctly. My doctors gave me a stern warning. I was to do everything not to fall. I turned ankles as much as I love candy. These braces are my access to the world.  This is priceless. I had to understand that I won’t wear anything but these braces and sneakers, but that’s okay. I had to learn that it’s not a badge of honor to be black and blue. So if you meet me, you will see me sporting men’s Nike’s and white AFO’s.

Have a blessed day.

  1. I'm glad you're not black and blue. Hang in there with the braces and keep yourself safe.

  3. Sometimes we have to do 'the stuff' that we need to in order to just be who we need to be. Braces, I would imagine, leave ones confidence somewhat lacking. I could be wrong. You sound very strong, just by telling your story here, so wear them with pride, walk confidently, and rock those Nikes! Take care.

  4. I'm sure they are both a blessing and a curse. I think you are so strong, in sharing your story and your feelings.

  5. So no high heels for you, but I would buy a red pair and just put them on my feet and look at them for fun. DO NOT WALK IN THEM. :)

  6. We have to do what we have to do. Your braces are a good thing because they give you the ability to walk. Wear them with a thankful heart.

  7. Dearest Regine,
Anything is far better than falling!
Had to look up one more typical American abbreviation... So AFO means ankle–foot orthosis.
Great inventions that make you 'mobile' without falling constantly!
I'd rather wear safe shoes than any 'elegant' or whatever and for decennia now I never understood WHO in the world would want to 'move' in those skyscraper heels!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  12. When you open up about the hard things in your life, I am encouraged to be honest in how I feel about the challenges I face, and praise Him that He doesn't leave me to face anything alone. In May I will celebrate my 70th birthday (the LORD willing.) It continues to amaze me at His grace that is moving you along on your journey that isn't easy. You are a blessing to so many!
