suggestions?

Getting ready for the winter storm. Please pray. Trying to stay calm and prepared.

Any good books or magazine articles?

Favorite meals to make?

Any tips or tricks of the trade?

Love you all

  1. Good books- not sure your favorite genre but some of my favorite authors are Anthony Horowitz (mystery); Daphne Du Maurier (not contemporary just well written novels- start with Rebecca (her best)); Lisa Genova (contemporary); Donna Tartt (she hasn't had a new book in years but The Secret History is good); Elizabeth Strout; Ann Patchett (I loved The Dutch House); John MacArthur (Christian pastor now deceased who wrote many books). Start with those, lol!!
Make chili and snuggle under a blanket with the fireplace on. Same warm and safe!!

  2. We've been hunkered down since Sunday. Had a brief reprieve yesterday and went out to get groceries, but more is coming along with that cold. Soup and chili is on the menu, Bob is working on a puzzle and I'm working on online scrapbooking.
Hope all goes well in your area.

  3. I pray that your home will be snug and warm and a safe haven from the winter storm. Definitely have some good books to read, and a pot of something delicious to eat...soups, stews, chili, whatever you like most. Praying it will not be too terrible where you are and that you will just be able to enjoy the view and stay warm.

  4. We're in the same boat as you are. Praying that you and we can keep our electricity so all can stay warm. Soups and chili are my go-tos in cold weather. Blessings!

  5. Aw, I hope you make out okay in the storm. It definitely sounds like we'll be getting lots and lots of snow. I tend to keep soups and bread going for lunches and dinner on cold spells like these and pile up things like puzzles, coloring, and crafting that don't need electricity; just in case!

  6. It looks like it will miss us , but when I took my sister to grab her prescriptions after an oral surgery day, the lines at the grocery store say otherwise.
A big pot of soup or chili, an alternate cooking method if the power is out, hot chocolate mix , different tea bags, Garden and Gun magazine (it is not what it sounds like,) or Daphne's Diary would make for a cozy stay at home time. Both magazines are great for browsing.

  7. Make sure you have food. You won't want to go out if it's icy. Have something you can eat cold (a good salad kit, tuna fish or tuna salad, make up some egg salad or deviled eggs, that kind of thing) -- just in case you lose power. Also, fill a a couple of jugs, water bottles or pitcher or something with water in case you lose power and water and want to wash your face and hands (especially if you have a pump). If your power on the fridge goes, it's usually good for at least 24-48 hours, but if it's super cold, you can store frozen things outside (or if you have a garage, even liquids, just check them periodically.) If you have a cooler, find it sooner rather than later. You don't need to pack it, just know where it is. And hopefully, all this is just words for nothing!

  8. Soups in wintry weather is good but of course you will need power.
Make sure you have cold food (of your choice) and plenty of water to drink/use.
I do hope you don't lose power and all is well in your area.

    All the best Jan

  9. I made a pot of potato soup yesterday which tasted very good in the extreme cold that we've had and will continue even colder for another week or so.
Something for entertainment. Books, hobbies, videos.
    Lots of naps.:-)
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  10. Pretty much the same here. Beans, chile and tortillas. I have tamales in the freezer. Books and puzzles. Hope it isn't as bad as predicted. Praying for you to be warm and snug.

  12. Hi Regine :) 21 inches here, maybe. I’d make sure everything is charged up for cell phone and laptop/iPads. We went shopping today and shelves were getting low. Milk was disappearing off shelves and a lot of other things. We will be making a big pot of soup but made sure we have a lot of other things for satisfying snacks in case the power went out and we can’t cook anything. Flashlights are loaded. We are told to leave the taps on a slight drip to prevent freezing. Also going to fill the bathtub with water, to flush toilets if power is off. Stay safe and warm. Hugs, Denise

  13. Just make sure you have food and essentials. And candles.....and if you have a lantern with batteries, that is always nice. Lots of blankets and tea. Thinking of you tonight.
